There’s a reason why honeymoons in Bermuda continue to top the list of dream newlywed destinations. The small island nation has crystal-blue water, colorful towns, pink-sand beaches, and plenty of museums and historical sites for when you need a break from the sun.

Bermuda honeymoons are all about luxury catamaran sails and beaches during the day, followed by romantic dinners and stargazing at night. But if you’re not keen to spend the day on the water, you’ll find plenty of other options for couples, ranging from rum tastings to guided naturalist hikes through tropical caves and jungle trails. Fortunately, you’re never too far from a beach, so it’s easy to find time for a quick dip once the temperatures rise.

For those pondering where to go post-wedding, here are 11 reasons why you should honeymoon in Bermuda.

Laze the Day Away at One of the World’s Best Beaches

Beautiful pink sand of Horseshoe Bay

You can’t have a honeymoon in Bermuda without spending time at the beach, and there’s no better place for lazing away the day than Horseshoe Bay. While many of Bermuda’s beautiful beaches have shallow, turquoise water, Horseshoe Bay has something else: sugar-soft, light pink sand running the length of the beach.

You can bring your own beach towels or rent everything you need once you arrive. And if you work up an appetite strolling past the beach’s giant rock and cave formations, stop by the nearby beach bar or grab a bite to eat from street vendors just offshore selling everything from ice cream to rum swizzles.

Horseshoe Bay Beach does attract plenty of locals and visitors, but fortunately, it’s quite large and you’ll always be able to find a place in the sand to lay your towel. For an extra romantic experience on your Bermuda honeymoon, try to visit midweek when the beach is less likely to be crowded. Stop and buy a few light snacks and frozen drinks for the ultimate relaxed honeymoon picnic.

Attend a Themed Party on a Luxury Catamaran

White Night sunset sail

One of the best reasons to head to Bermuda on a honeymoon is the island’s romantic nightlife. And while you’ll almost always be able to find a table at a cozy beach bar, one activity you’ll want to book in advance is a White Night sunset sail.

The themed parties, in which all attendees wear white, are held onboard a luxury catamaran in the early evening. Attendees are usually couples, and the rum swizzles—made with rum, grenadine, and various fresh fruit juices—will be flowing as you cruise along the harbor.

You’ll hear legends and stories about Bermuda before seeing one of the best sunsets in the world. It’s a great way to cap off an active day or kick off a romantic night for two in Hamilton.

Paddle Stunning Coastlines With an Expert Guide

Kayaking, one of the best Bermuda honeymoon activities

Kayaking in Bermuda

Climb into a kayak built for two on your honeymoon in Bermuda to learn about the island’s natural surroundings. Most kayak tours leave from the Royal Navy Dockyards and paddle around the shore.

One of the most popular options for honeymooners are the tours guided by naturalists. These guides are experts on Bermuda’s marine life and will point out all the sights to see above and below the water as you paddle along the coastline.

Climb into a two-person kayak and follow an expert naturalist on a narrated glide across the water. You’ll pass deserted islands and paddle along the rugged Bermuda coastline. Along the way, keep watch for exotic birds, island wildlife, and remember to look down for great views of the marine world beneath you.

See Fascinating New Plants and Animals

If the two of you are animal lovers, you’ll love Bermuda’s Aquarium, Museum, and Zoo. The large facility has dozens of different exhibits, including one on Caribbean animals featuring tamarins and agouti and an Australian exhibit with water monitors and kangaroos.

You can also stroll along the coastal walkway, stop by the sea turtle conservation center, or stroll through the Natural History Museum. If you’re up for more adventure, sign up for a snorkel or boat tour from the Zoological Society grounds—just stop by the activities desk when you arrive.

Climb Deep Into an Underground Tropical Cave

Crystal Caves

One of the most unique things to do in Bermuda on a honeymoon is explore the Crystal Caves. The extensive cave system is over a million years old with thousands of rock formations, stalagmites, and stalactites shaped by the centuries.

But what makes these caves so beautiful is the crystal-blue lake that covers the lower half. As you explore, you’ll walk along raised walkways, passing fantastic photo opportunities along the way. The cave is usually about 70 degrees Fahrenheit year-round.

Though the cave is quite ancient, it wasn’t discovered until 1907. While thousands of tourists visit it now each week, the first tourist to visit was none other than author Mark Twain, who later wrote fondly of the cave’s thousands of shimmering, crystallized formations.

Taste Rum Honed to Perfection by the Centuries

Get a literal taste of Bermuda on your honeymoon at the Gosling Rum Factory. Gosling has been making rum on the island since the very early 1800s. At their factory in Hamilton, you can enjoy a quick rum tasting at their house bar to figure out which blend is your favorite.

Fortunately, Gosling doesn’t stop at spirits and you can also try a few snacks infused with rum flavors while there. Pick up a bottle to enjoy during your Bermuda honeymoon, or grab a bottle for friends back home. Americans can import one liter of spirits per person.

The colorful city streets are the perfect place to pick up a special souvenir to remind you of your Bermuda honeymoon and find cute gifts for friends. If you think you’re going to buy more than a few inexpensive souvenirs, consider signing up for a Hamilton shopping tour, which usually comes with transportation to the city’s downtown and significant discounts at many of the area shops.

Once you’ve browsed through the stores, spend a little extra time walking around downtown Hamilton to explore the historic buildings. You can take a guided walking tour to learn even more about the city, which dates to 1790.

Walk Along a Historic 18-Mile Trail

Couple hiking along the Railway Trail

Railway Trail

If you’re an outdoorsy couple who loves to get out in nature while traveling, you’ll love exploring the Railway Trail on your Bermuda honeymoon. The trail is a respectable 18 miles long, so you’ll probably need to rent bicycles if you want to see all of it.

But if you want to travel on foot, there’s plenty to see. The trail follows the route of the former tourist train that crossed the island. It operated until 1945, and in the 80s, it was turned into a mixed-use trail. Various segments run along Bermuda’s most beautiful coastline, curve under dense tropical trees, and pass well-known sights like the Gibbs lighthouse.

Anyone can walk the trail by themselves, but you should probably go with a guide if you want to explore the unpaved sections. You’re likely to see all kinds of flora and fauna along the way. Some guided walks even end with a quick dip at local beaches since you’re likely to break a sweat.

Snorkel at Private Tropical Coves

Snorkeling in Bermuda

There are plenty of great places to snorkel in Bermuda, but for your honeymoon, opt for a luxurious snorkeling tour. One of the best on the island is aboard a multi-million dollar catamaran called the “Zara.”

At 77 feet long, it’s the largest catamaran on the island and has quite a few luxurious features, including a large wrap-around deck and a raised upper area for lounging in the sun.

Snorkeling tours aboard the Zara usually leave from the Royal Naval Dockyard and go to a small, sandy cove with calm water. The crew provides everything you need to snorkel, and if you keep your eyes peeled, you may even see sea turtles in the shallow underwater grasses.

When you’re done snorkeling, hop back on board and toast to a successful snorkeling adventure with a fresh cocktail while you cruise back to the pier. If you don’t want to snorkel, the Zara sometimes offers elegant night sailings, too.

Walk to Romantic Pink-Sand Beaches

Couple walking towards Jobson’s Cove Beach

Jobson’s Cove

Jobson’s Cove is small but mighty and well-worth the short walk to reach. Though the beach does connect to the ocean, the large rocks that nearly encircle the swimming area make it look like a secret lagoon.

It’s shallow, even at high tide, which leaves the water temperatures warm year-round. And the contrast of the light-pink sand against the turquoise water is one of the prettiest sights in all of Bermuda.

To reach Jobson’s Cove, you’ll need to take a short walk south from Warwick Bay Beach. If you’re lucky, you’ll have the cove to yourselves when you get there. But if it feels too crowded when you arrive, keep walking south.

You can be at Hidden Beach, Butts Beach, or Horseshoe Bay Cove in a few minutes, all of which are nearly as picturesque. You won’t find too many vendors at Jobson’s Cove, but you should be able to rent beach chairs and snorkel gear near the parking area at Warwick Bay Beach.

Explore the Ocean on a Glass-Bottom Boat Tour

Couple walking to the glass-bottom boat in Bermuda

Glass-bottom boat

If the two of you want to explore Bermuda’s underwater world but aren’t ready to commit to scuba diving, try the next-best thing: an elegant daytime or evening cruise aboard a glass-bottom boat. Try to get one that leaves from the Royal Naval Dockyard so you can cruise to the HMS Vixen.

This British Royal Navy gunboat was scuttled at its current location just offshore in the late 1800s. Since the boat is both above and below the water, it’s an excellent spot for snorkeling and taking pictures from the surface; you can usually spot marine life and schools of fish just a few feet under the water.

To add a little honeymoon romance to the activity, consider taking the same tour at sunset. As the sun sets, your guide will tell tales about Bermuda’s pirate history. And once the ocean darkens, your captain will flip on the underwater lights above the shipwreck so you have a better chance of seeing evening predators like giant lobsters, octopuses, and even small sharks. Tours often come with a complimentary rum swizzle to help you get into the pirate spirit.
